Feeling Invisible
Ok, honest question: Do you struggle like so many of us with feeling invisible? When is the last time you’ve felt SEEN? You know, truly seen—for who you genuinely are?
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on this because many of you have shared that you’re starting to feel more and more invisible. If this resonates with you, I want you to know you’re not alone.
Understanding Feeling Invisible
If you’ve been feeling like you’re fading into the background, I want to share something that might help. Research shows that when we start to hide who we are—whether from others or even from ourselves—we create disconnection. This disconnection can impact both our physical health and emotional wellbeing. We all need connection, and most importantly, we need to see ourselves!
You’re Not Alone in Feeling Unseen
If you’ve been dimming your own light or feeling unseen by others—whether intentionally or not—rest assured, you’re not alone. There are many reasons and ways we start to feel invisible in our lives. It could be feeling unnoticed by a partner, unappreciated at work, or struggling with self-worth. Sometimes, it’s as simple as our addiction to staring at our phones, causing us to forget to connect meaningfully with others or even with ourselves.
Take a Step Toward Being SEEN
Can you relate to any of these feelings? If so, today I want to encourage you to take one small but powerful step toward being SEEN so that you can stop feeling invisible. And it starts with giving what you yourself need!
Yes, the first step to being seen begins with SEEING someone else. This approach works wonders and is my go-to solution for overcoming that sense of invisibility. Because in life, we get what we give!
How to SEE Others and Feel More SEEN Yourself
So today, make an effort to SEE someone else. Here’s how:
- Give an Honest Compliment: In the coffee line, offer a genuine compliment to the person serving you. Appreciate their smile or their positive energy.
- Notice and Acknowledge: Let someone know you love their dress or shoes. Hold the door open for someone and make eye contact to show you recognize them.
- Express Appreciation: Tell a co-worker, friend, or partner something you notice and appreciate about them.
When you truly SEE someone else, you’ll often find that they’ll take a moment to SEE you in return. This simple act of connection can make a significant difference in how you feel.
